TRULY SINGAPOREAN MAKAN & WINE SERIES

BLUE SKY DRINKING: ARGENTINA’S HIGH ALTITUDES VITICULTURE LUNCH

The Argentine's high altitudes subject its vines and developing grapes with greater stress and the results are quite remarkable! Under these harsh conditions, grape skins become noticeably thicker, meaning bolder structuring tannins (for red wines) and more flavours in the wine. Cold nights also effectively allow the ripening grapes to ‘rest’ – their nocturnal respiration consuming less energy, so eating up less of the fruit’s reserves that have been built up by photosynthesis during the day. Again, given that those days are packed with the most intense ripening sun, the intensity of colour, aromas and flavours is higher, and this carries through into the resulting wine.

For this Truly Singaporean Makan and Wine edition, we are proud to work with the Octopus Group to bring you 5 highly rated wines from La Mascota and Trapiche in the Andes highland regions of Argentina. The combined effects of appreciating Argentine's high altitude wines and New Ubin Seafood's gastronomy will leave you with an extraordinary experience that is sure to have a lasting memory on you.

Come celebrate tis' merry season at New Ubin Seafood with us!

ABOUT THE WINERIES

LA MASCOTA VINEYARDS

The vineyards lie at the foot of the Andes Mountains, barely a thousand meters away from the Mendoza River. The vines receive fresh breezes descending from the mountains and blowing along the river, all of which contributes to the generation of wide temperature ranges. The soil is predominantly alluvial, with a clay-loam surface, and rock is found at a depth of 60 cm (23.4 in). And so it is that Finca La Mascota finds itself set in perfect surroundings, and one the most renowned and prestigious wine-growing regions in Mendoza.

The vineyards cover 100 hectares of land, 97 of which are implanted with grapes. The main varieties produced are Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz among the reds; and Chardonnay among the whites. The oldest wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon lot which was planted 41 years ago. The average age of the vineyards is 30 years, ranging from the 5 year-old new blocks to the oldest ones planted in the 70’s.

TRAPICHE VINEYARDS

Trapiche sources its exceptional grapes from a variety of extraordinary vineyards throughout Mendoza. This “Richness of Diversity” is displayed via our extensive portfolio of wines.

Like no other, they understand the strength of the viticulture in Argentina, and therefore specialize in obtaining the best from every acre to create unique and premium wines.

Their vineyards encompass more than 2,470 acres of Argentine terroir, and they obtain grapes from more than 200 independent producers in the best wine-growing areas of Argentina. Trapiche owns and operates a number of pristine vineyards across Argentina.
